Nikki Reports September 29, 2009
OUR FIRST HARVEST OF CLEANER FISH
HURRAY!!! after four months waiting for the crop, we began our harvest today September 28th, 2009.
We harvested our 3 thousand DANGGIT a famous fish in the Philippines as a salted dried fish.
When it's already dried it retails for 500 pesos a kilo more or less. It is also ideal for fry and grill.
Early morning of Monday me and papa leave the eatery with Bobeth (my sis) absent from her office work and mama.
We called ARBON, the swimmer to swim and catch the DANGGIT with a 'sibot' or hand net while Enting and his bro in
law were waiting his signal to pull the rope where the sibot was tied up. He swam and catch DANGGIT who were just
in each corner of the net and move the rope as a signal to pull it and fishes were already inside.
[This continued ] until he got all the DANGGIT kept into the three big thick bucket made from seaweeds with ice blocks crashed inside.
[We then] carried those to the rocky dock-yard with our pump boat, transferred those to baskets made from rattan to remove the water at the
same time and weigh. We got more than four baskets of danggit and sold 214 kilos and [kept] the rest - 11 kilos to carry home and share
those to relatives and neighbors. So now, only the 10 thousand milk-fish [are] left in the net and [we] plan to harvest midweek of November.
